Jim Smith’s Training Biography

Jim Smith is a highly skilled instructor with 25 plus years of Tactical Firearms Instruction experience.  Jim is a well-respected member of the United States Special Operations community. Having been an Airborne Ranger, Special Forces Engineer and a sniper and assaulter with 1st SFOD-D Delta Force, Jim has the knowledge, skills and abilities to better any unit’s abilities and combat strength. 

Having a lengthy operational background and real world combat experience with 1st SFOD-D Jim has the skills and experience necessary to train your unit.  Jim participated in several combat raids and high threat security details in hostile overseas locations.  Jim has a wealth of timely experience and current knowledge on the current fight.

He is a certified United States Federal Firearms Instructor and a Special Operations Target Interdiction Course trainer and certified Level One Sniper Instructor.  Jim has been to numerous military and civilian tactical firearms schools. Jim has designed and built his own 30 square kilometer training facility from the ground up. The Spartan Tactical facility is one of the most innovative and expansive in the United States for training snipers and other tactical purposes.

The Spartan Tactical Training Facility is used by the US Marine Corp MARSOC to conduct their Advanced Sniper course several times a year.  Other US Special Operations forces also use the Spartan Facility to run their sniper courses.

Jim has trained Special Forces teams, USMC MARSOC, 2/75th Rangers Infantry, 82nd Airborne, 101st Airborne, US Army Military Police, USMC Recon Battalion, numerous Army battalions in Tactical Firearms and Close Quarter Battle (CQB).  Jim has also trained several foreign military units from Jordan, Greece, Israel, Germany and Italy. 

Jim has written several US programs that have been used nationally for the betterment of the US Military and Federal Law Enforcement. After 9/11/01 Jim was one of the principles who wrote the Federal Air Marshals’ training program.  He was responsible for the training of the Federal Air Marshals for 3 ½ years.  Jim also wrote a national firearms training program called SURGE for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency.  He also conducted this training for the same service with great success. 

Jim went on to write one of the most successful training programs for the US Army with two other veterans from Delta call CATC.  The intent of the program was to change the training methodology of the US Army.

He also wrote an national advanced training program for the Federal Flight Deck Officers and has been training sixty plus of these officers.

Jim has assisted the American Defense industry, working with several companies as a consultant and in trials and testing of new weapons and equipment.  Remington Defense has done extensive testing at the Spartan Tactical Training Facility.  Jim has been a paid consultant with Leupold and Stevens for six years, assisting on all of the latest military riflescope projects.

He is a decorated combat veteran having been awarded the Silver Star, Purple Heart, Legion of Merit and numerous other military awards.  He is a 70% disabled veteran from wounds received in Somalia after having crashed in a Black hawk helicopter in enemy territory and then shot with an AK 47 in the shoulder.

Jim Smith’s Training Experience

Jim Smith is a highly skilled instructor with 25 plus years of Tactical Firearms Instruction experience.  Jim is a well-respected member of the Special Operations community. Having been an Airborne Ranger, Special Forces Engineer and an operator with 1st SFOD-D Delta Force, Jim has the knowledge, skills and abilities to better any unit’s combat abilities. 

Having a lengthy operational background and real world combat experience with 1st SFOD-D.  Jim participated in several combat raids and high threat security details in hostile overseas locations.   He is an experienced breacher with years of explosive experience.  Jim has a wealth of timely experience and current knowledge on the current fight.

He is a certified Federal Firearms Instructor and a SOTIC trained and certified Sniper Instructor.  Jim has been to numerous military and civilian tactical firearms schools.  Jim is a certified FBI combative instructor and a Pressure Point Control Techniques Instructor (PPCT).  

Jim has trained Special Forces teams, USMC MARSOC, 2/75th Rangers Infantry, 82nd Airborne, 101st Airborne, US Army Military Police, USMC Recon Battalion, numerous Army battalions in Tactical Firearms and Close Quarter Battle (CQB).  Jim has also trained several foreign military units from Israel, Jordan, Greece, Germany and Italy.

After 9/11/01 Jim was one of the instructors who wrote the Federal Air Marshals’ training program.  He was responsible for the training of the Federal Air Marshals for 3 ½ years.  Jim also wrote a national firearms training program (SURGE), for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency.  He also conducted this training for the same service with great success. 

Jim wrote an advanced training program for the Federal Flight Deck Officers and has been training sixty plus of these officers.   He is an instructor with the Texas Tactical Police Officers Association (TTPOA), and trains SWAT teams in Texas and California.
